New stop sign erected at the intersection of Thorndike Street and High Street

Please be informed that a new stop sign has been erected at the intersection of Thorndike Street and High Street. Motorists coming from Thorndike Street onto High Street should come to a stop.

Prior to erecting the sign in cooperation with the Board of Selectman and the Highway Department, the police department considered the concerns of several local motorists. In addition, the police department completed several traffic monitoring studies of the area. The area continues to receive additional local and out of state traffic.

We thank residents for their anticipated cooperation and compliance to this newly erected traffic control.

On another note, the department is presently working with the Board of Selectman and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation in order to determine an appropriate speed posting for Kemp Street, a street that has seen a increase in traffic volume since local building and the erection of the High School. The study is presently being reviewed by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation in Boston who will determine an appropriate speed posting.
