Holiday Season Thefts

For thieves, ‘tis the season to steal. The Santa Barbara Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit has begun receiving reports of UPS and FedEx package thefts. The thefts are occurring citywide with parcels being stolen from front doorsteps after they have been delivered. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity immediately to the Santa Barbara Police Department by calling 9-1-1. Residents expecting the delivery of packages are encouraged to use online tracking services provided by UPS, FedEx, the US Postal Service, and other carriers and to retrieve their packages as soon as possible after delivery, or have a trusted neighbor do so.

Likewise, detectives are also reporting a citywide increase in thefts from unlocked vehicles. When parking on the street and other public places residents are advised to remove their valuables from their vehicles and to keep their cars locked.
