Residential Burglary Suspect Arrested

On Monday, December 7, 2015 at 9:11 AM a resident on Lemonwood Way observed an unknown man climbing into a rear window of her neighbor’s home. She became immediately suspicious, called 9-1-1 and advised dispatchers that she believed a burglary was occurring. As police arrived to the area the suspect fled out the back yard and over a fence into the large orchard just to the south of the Muirwood tract and north of Foothill Knolls. The man was described as possibly being Hispanic, approximately 5’11 tall and wearing a slender long dark coat and “prescription-type” glasses.

A perimeter enclosing the orchard and adjacent homes to either side was established as some of the officers pursued the suspect on foot. Within 15-20 minutes the suspect was located, detained and positively identified by witnesses. Kerry Rudd, a 34-year-old transient originally out of Concord, was subsequently arrested and booked into Santa Rita County Jail on felony charges of 459PC (Burglary), as well as an outstanding warrant for the same crime out of Contra Costa County.

This is the second such in-progress residential burglary arrest in five days. As before, the apprehension of this suspect would not have been possible without responsible citizens recognizing suspicious activity and immediately contacting the Police Department to report it. We continue to remind residents that a safe community is everybody’s business, and that by working in partnership with the Police Department we can become better together. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who may have additional information to provide on possible associated burglaries, is asked to call the Pleasanton Police Department at (925) 931-5100.
