The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 12, in cooperation with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), proposes to widen State Route 55 (SR-55) in both directions from just north of the Interstate 405 (I-405)/SR-55 Interchange to just south of the Interstate 5 (I-5)/SR-55 Interchange between Post Miles 6.4 and 10.3, traversing the cities of Santa Ana, Tustin, and Irvine in Orange County, California. The purpose of the proposed project is to reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility and traffic operations in the project study area.
Caltrans has studied the effects this project may have on the environment. Our studies show it will not significantly affect the quality of the environment. The report that explains why is called an Initial Study/Environmental Assessment. The Public Notice is attached and tells you of the preparation of the Proposed Mitigated Negative Declaration and Initial Study/Environmental Assessment and of its availability for your review.
A public meeting, in an open house format, will be held December 10, 2015, 6-8 pm, at the Boy Scouts of America, Orange County Council, 1211 E Dyer Road, Santa Ana, CA 92705. During the meeting you have the opportunity to discuss certain design features of the project with Caltrans staff before the final design is selected. The tentative schedule for the purchase of land for right of way and construction will be discussed, and Caltrans staff will explain the relocation assistance for businesses moved by the project.

SR-55 Mejoramientos: Reunión Pública, 10 de diciembre
El Departamento de Transporte de California (Caltrans) Distrito 12, en cooperación con la Autoridad de Transporte del Condado de Orange (OCTA), se propone ampliar la Ruta Estatal 55 (SR-55) en ambas direcciones desde justo al norte del Intercambio de la Interestatal 405 (I-405)/SR-55 hasta justo al sur del Intercambio de la Interestatal 5 (I-5)/SR-55 entre Millas Fijadas 6.4 y 10.3, atravesando las ciudades de Santa Ana, Tustin, e Irvine en el Condado de Orange, California. El objetivo del proyecto propuesto es reducir la congestión del tráfico y mejorar las operaciones de movilidad y tráfico en el área de estudio del proyecto.
Caltrans ha estudiado los efectos que este proyecto pueda producir en el medio ambiente. Nuestros estudios muestran que no afectará significativamente la calidad del medio ambiente. El informe que explica por qué se llama un Estudio Inicial/Evaluación Ambiental.
