The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

November 30, 2015

1232 Hours: Officer Fredstrom responded to Macy’s at NewPark Mall, on a report of a shoplifter in custody. Officer Fredstrom arrived on scene and arrested a 35 year old male of Hayward for petty theft. The suspect had a previous arrest from a different Macy’s and had been previously provided with a “no trespass order” by Macy’s loss prevention agents. He was additionally arrested for 602.1(a) PC (trespassing) and later released on a citation.

1839 Hours: Officers responded to a vehicle collision on Jarvis Avenue at Haley Street involving a solo vehicle vs. the center median. Officer Geser documented the collision.

1528 Hours: Officer Mapes and Officer Musantry conducted a probation search at a residence in the 6200 block of Bennington Dr. A 32 year old female of Newark was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was later released on a citation.

1859 Hours: Officers responded to a non-injury vehicle collision on Thornton Avenue at Cherry Street involving two vehicles. Officer Slater documented the collision.

2154 Hours: Officer Kovach followed up on a hit and run collision investigation from November 29th and located the suspect. A 49 year old male from Fremont was issued a citation for fleeing the scene of a collision.

December 1, 2015

0754 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated a domestic violence incident that occurred the night prior (November 30th) during a child custody exchange at the McDonald’s restaurant by NewPark Mall. On 12-04-2015 at 1224 hours, Officers Posadas and Heckman responded to Fremont and contacted the suspect, a 29 year old male of Stockton. He was arrested for several no-cite warrants. He was also served with an Emergency Protective Order granted by a judge, related to the domestic violence incident. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

1234 Hours: Officer Rodgers on-viewed a traffic collision on Mowry Ave. at Cedar Blvd. involving a Paramedics Plus ambulance responding Code-3(lights and siren) to Washington Hospital with a patient. The driver and passenger in the other vehicle were also injured in the collision.

1417 Hours: An armed robbery occurred at the Jarvis Ave. Chevron Station. Less than a minute later, Officer Johnson started following a possible suspect vehicle based on the store clerk’s description of the getaway vehicle. With the assistance of CHP units, a high-risk car stop was conducted N/B 880 near Whipple Ave. The occupants of this vehicle were determined to have had no involvement in the robbery. Detectives are following up on the robbery investigation.

December 2, 2015

1217 Hours: Officer Prakash and FTO (Field Training Officer) Fredstrom were driving through the parking lot of the Newark Square Shopping Center and observed a 60 year old male of Alameda drinking from an open container of alcohol. The male was listed as a wanted person out of San Francisco for a warrant. He was arrested and released from the scene with a new court date.

1002 Hours: Officer Ackerman investigated the theft of a debit card machine from the outside office of the Bridgeport Apts., 36826 Cherry St. The theft occurred sometime between 11/28/15 and 11/30/15.

1322 Hours: Officer Horst investigated a theft for a storage locker from Public Storage, 35360 Fircrest St. Loss was tools, camping gear, clothing and a laptop computer.

1842 Hours: A warrant service by Officer Homayoun at a residence in the 6200 block of Thomas Avenue which led to the arrest of a 37 year old female of Newark. She was issued a new court date and released.

2205 Hours: Sgt. Kovach arrested a 43 year old female for public drunkenness when she was observed urinating in the Home Depot parking lot. She went to Fremont Jail for 647(f) PC.

0127 Hours: Officer Geser investigated a hit and run collision which occurred in the 36200 block of Bettencourt Street. Officer Geser tracked the suspect to his residence. A 45 year old male of Newark was cited for 20002(a) CVC and released.

0308 Hours: Officer Norvell investigated an attempted commercial burglary at Thai Express located at 39945 Balentine Drive. A nearby delivery driver witnessed (2) suspects attempting to smash the front glass window. The suspects made numerous attempts to break the front glass window but were unsuccessful.

December 3, 2015

1042 Hours: Officer Posadas contacted a 40 year old transient male on St. Isabel. He was arrested for several warrants and transported to the Fremont Jail, where he was booked.

December 4, 2015

0742 Hours: Officer Prakash and FTO Fredstrom investigated a collision involving two vehicles on Cherry Street/Clark Avenue.

0829 Hours: Officer Posadas investigated a collision involving three vehicles on Thornton Avenue/84.

1151 Hours: Officer Posadas arrested a 58 year old male of Newark for his outstanding warrants. He was issued a new court date and released.

1247 Hours: Officer Ackerman investigated a collision involving two vehicles on Haley Street at Fountaine Avenue. One driver was transported with a possible broken ankle.

1730 Hours: Officers responded to a residence in the 6300 block of Narcissus Avenue for a restraining order violation. According to the caller a restrained male was inside of the garage where he keeps a safe loaded with firearms. Further investigation revealed the restraining order had not been served upon the male. Officer Jackman served the restraining order on the male and officers seized the firearms based on the conditions of the order.

1734 Hours: While responding to the above listed call, Officer Ackerman located a solo vehicle collision on Central Avenue.

1906 Hours: Officer Simon accepted a citizen in custody arrested for shoplifting at JC Penney’s. A 20 year old female of San Leandro was cite released for 484(a)PC – petty theft.

1928 Hours: A victim reported that a package was taken was off his porch in the 5500 block of Rosa Way.

1936 Hours: CSO Parks investigated a cell phone stolen out of a Silliman Center locker.

2351 Hours: Officer Khairy arrested a 39 year old male of Newark for DUI. He was transported to Fremont PD Jail where he was booked.

0300 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a battery that occurred outside of Jacque’s Bar. The victim was transported to a local hospital after being punched in the nose. The suspect was described as a white male adult with long dark hair in his mid-twenties walking a large dog.


December 5, 2015

0936 Hours: Officer Musantry and Officer Katz preformed a warrant service at a residence in the 6200 block of Mayhews Landing Road. A 39 year old male of Newark was arrested for his warrants and issued a new court date.

1700 Hours: Officer Musantry arrested a 53 year old male of Newark in front of his residence for his outstanding warrants. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

1700 Hours: During the warrant service at a residence in the 37800 block of Birch St. Officer Musantry contacted a well-known probationer. A 39 year old male of San Leandro was arrested for possession of concentrated cannabis. He was released on a citation for 11357 (a) H&S.

1755 Hours: Officers responded to Ross Department Store for a reported lost adult male. An 82 year old male who suffers from dementia got lost after going to the bathroom inside the store. Officer Geser who responded to help search the area located the male walking near Safeway.

2217 Hours: Upon checking a vehicle to the rear of the Residence Inn located at 35466 Dumbarton Ct, Officer Khairy contacted vehicle two people in a vehicle. A small amount of suspected methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe were located in the center console of the vehicle. A 45 year old male of Newark was cited for 11377 H&S- possession of methamphetamine and 11364.1 H&S- possession of drug paraphernalia.

0419 Hours: Officer Losier responded to an unresponsive male in front of 6347 Jarvis Ave. A 26 year old male of Newark was just determined to be too intoxicated to care for himself. He was placed under arrest and booked at Fremont PD Jail.

December 6, 2015

1215 Hours: Officer Katz and Officer Musantry contacted a 40 year old female of Newark and a 60 year old male of Newark walking on the railroad track trestle between the City of Fremont and the City of Newark. They were arrested for 369(i) PC - Trespassing on Railroad Property. They were both released on a citation.
