Three New Troopers Assigned to Versailles District

Ripley County-On Monday November 30, three new troopers reported for duty at the Indiana State Police Post in Versailles.  They are three of the 46 new troopers reporting to their districts after graduating from the 75th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy on Thursday, November 19th.

The new troopers completed over 900 hours of intense training during the 21 week academy.  During the academy, recruits were given training in numerous subject areas including criminal and traffic law, vehicle accident investigations, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, and firearm training in addition to numerous other subjects related to policing.

The new probationary troopers assigned to the Versailles Post are:

Jordan Craig, age 28, is a 2005 graduate of East Central High School.  After high school graduation, Craig attended Cincinnati State University before joining the United States Navy, where he served from 2006 to 2010.  In 2011, Craig was hired as a police officer in Greensburg, IN.  He held that position until he was accepted into the Indiana State Police Academy in June of this year.

Tia Deaton, age 25, is a 2009 graduate of Scottsburg High School.  After high school graduation, Deaton attended Ivy Tech Community College where she graduated in 2013 with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice.  Prior to being accepted into the Indiana State Police Academy, she worked as an attendant at the Madison State Hospital from 2010-2014 and as a technician at ILPEA Industries in Scottsburg from 2014-2015.

Michael Thiron, age 21, is a 2012 graduate of Taylor County High School in Campbellsville, KY.  After high school graduation, Thiron attended Elizabethtown Community College when he graduated in 2014 with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice.  Prior to being accepted into the Indiana State Police Academy, he worked as an auto mechanic at Tom Wood Honda in Frankton, IN.

The three new probationary troopers will now undergo a three month training with a field training officer as part of the Indiana State Police FTO program.  During the three months, they will be paired up with a veteran trooper who will additionally train the probationary troopers in a real life environment.  Upon successfully completing the field training program, the three new troopers will receive their own commissions and begin solo patrols.

After receiving their commissions, all three new troopers will primarily be assigned to Jackson and Bartholomew Counties.
