Newark Police Department Pedestrian Traffic Safety Operation

On Monday, November 30th, 2015, Officers from the Newark Police Department conducted another Pedestrian Traffic Safety Operation. The Pedestrian Traffic Safety Operation was an effort focused on pedestrian safety due to several recent pedestrian related vehicle collisions. During this operation, non-uniformed members of the Newark Police Department crossed streets in marked pedestrian crosswalks while Officers monitored drivers’ compliance. The Pedestrian Traffic Safety Operation resulted in the issuance of 68 citations and 23 verbal warnings. There were also 7 unlicensed drivers contacted during the operation.
Additionally, Officers who participated in the Pedestrian Traffic Safety Operation used this opportunity to speak directly to drivers and provide education regarding pedestrian right-of-way laws and other associated traffic laws.
