The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

November 20, 2015

0747 Hours: Officer Heckman contacted and arrested a 27 year old male of Newark for his outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1301 Hours: Officer Heckman responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 6300 block of Zulmida Ave. Officer Heckman investigated the incident and determined a 34 year old male of Newark used willful and unlawful force on a spouse. He was arrested for spousal battery (243(e)(1) PC). He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1419 Hours: Officer Jackman responded to 34909 Newark Blvd, for a report of an unresponsive male. Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 59 year old transient male for public intoxication (647(f) PC) He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1909 Hours: Two vehicles were involved in a traffic collision on South Magazine Road where one vehicle traveling eastbound collided with a vehicle that was exiting from the Bhindi Jewelry parking lot. The eastbound traveling vehicle overturned with four occupants inside. Two children and an adult driver exited the overturned vehicle. An elderly female was trapped inside and had to be extracted by Alameda County Fire Department personnel.

2354 Hours: Officer Homayoun responded to the Pizza Hut parking lot located at 6221 Jarvis Ave to contact a subject who was reported to be possibly intoxicated and sleeping in his vehicle for the past 2 hours. A 29 year old male of Oakland was contacted and arrested for public intoxication. He was transported to Fremont PD Jail.

0016 Hours: Officer Simon checked on a parked vehicle in the parking lot of 35445 Dumbarton Ct. A 29 year old male of Fremont was contacted with a female passenger. He was active to probation for possession of methamphetamine with a search clause. A search was conducted and a small amount of suspected methamphetamine was located in his vehicle. He was arrested for methamphetamine possession and a probation violation. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

November 21, 2015

Officer Mapes located and arrested a 50 year old male of Newark, for an outstanding warrant. He was issued a citation.

Officer Mapes located and arrested a 39 year old male of San Leandro for an outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested and booked at Fremont Jail.

Officer Musantry conducted a probation search of a 53 year old male of Newark and arrested him for 11377(a)H&S- possession of methamphetamine. He was arrested and booked at Fremont Jail.

Officer Mapes arrested a 32 year old male for possession of methamphetamine. He was issued a citation and released.

2030 Hours: Officer Arroyo accepted a shoplifter in custody for theft at Macy’s. A 19 year old male of Oakland was cited from Macy’s for the theft.

2216 Hours: Officer Khairy conducted a traffic stop on an unlicensed driver, a 31 year old male of Newark. The driver was determined to have a no cite drug warrant and was on probation with search terms. Continuing his contact with the driver Officer Khairy noticed he was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and a small amount of cocaine was located on his person. K-9 Officer Mavrakis assisted by having K-9 Ares conduct a search of the vehicle. A pouch containing pre-packaged small amounts of methamphetamine, additional packaging materials, and scales were located inside the vehicle. The male was arrested for the warrant, 23152(b)VC - DUI, 11379 H&S- transportation of a controlled substance, 11350 H&S- possession of cocaine, 12500 VC- driving without a license, and 23247(e)VC – no interlock device. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

0021 Hours: Officer Simon conducted a traffic stop on a Honda Passport without license plates. The driver, a 26 year old female of Palo Alto had a suspended driver’s license. A subsequent search of the passenger, a 22 year old male of Oklahoma yielded an uncapped syringe loaded with suspected methamphetamine in his front pocket. Additional syringes were located inside the vehicle as well as a suspected methamphetamine pipe which was found inside a woman’s make-up bag. The male passenger was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, the driver was arrested for driving on a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were booked at Fremont PD Jail.

0142 Hours: Officer Losier on viewed a private party property damage collision that occurred in front of O’Sullivan’s after the bar was cleared of all patrons following a live music event. Both drivers had suspended driver’s licenses and were cited.

0404 Hours: Officer Losier conducted a traffic stop near the Double Tree Hotel on a seven passenger SUV full of occupants. The driver, a 25 year old male of Union City, was arrested for DUI. The rest of the intoxicated passengers were picked up by a sober driver. The driver was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

November 22, 2015

1058 Hours: Officer Katz arrested a 53 year old male of Newark for possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license after a traffic stop. He was released on a citation.

1311 Hours: Officer Musantry contacted a 64 year old male in front of his residence 35600 block of Newark Blvd and arrested him for his two outstanding warrants for his arrest. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.


November 23, 2015

0943 Hours: Officer Mapes and Officer Nobbe were dispatched to 5555 Cedar Ct. regarding a disturbance between boyfriend and girlfriend. During the investigation, the female a 22 year old Newark resident was contacted in room 241. A probation search was conducted per her probation terms. During the search, she admitted she had drug paraphernalia in her bra and methamphetamine in her makeup bag. She was arrested and released on a citation.

1132 Hours: Officers responded to a reported robbery at the 76 Gas Station, located on Newark Blvd at Cedar Blvd. Officer Mapes arrived and spoke to the clerk who described the suspect as a black male adult, 20's, 6-02 tall and 200-230 lbs., wearing jeans and a hooded sweatshirt. The suspect fled west from the business towards an apartment complex.

2157 Hours: Officers responded to a report of an attempted carjacking that had just occurred in the 6200 block of Broadway Avenue. The victim reported she was getting into her vehicle when she was approached by two males in gray hooded sweatshirts and one of them was armed with a gun. The suspects were described as Hispanic male adults and both appeared to be in their early 20’s.

0011 Hours: A 20 year old male responded to Newark PD and self-surrendered on a warrant. He was issued a new court date and was released.

November 24, 2015

2127 Hours: Officers responded to a family disturbance at a residence in the 6200 block of Marguerite Drive. Officer Norvell arrested a 79 year old female of Newark for felony domestic violence. She was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

November 25, 2015

0819 Hours: Officer Bloom was dispatched to the Residence Inn, located at 35466 Dumbarton Ct, for an identity theft investigation. Officer Bloom contacted a 29 year old female of Hayward after she used a victim’s reward points to rent a room. She was subsequently arrested for identity theft (530.5 PC), felon unlawfully possessing pepper spray (22810(a) PC), felon unlawfully possessing a stun gun (22610(a) PC), possessing a controlled substance (11377 H&S), and for possessing drug paraphernalia (11364 H&S). She was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1216 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 22 year old transient female for possessing drug paraphernalia. She was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1942 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a domestic violence incident where a 37 year old transient male battered his wife. He was arrested for 243(e)(1) PC- spousal battery and booked at Santa Rita Jail

0204 Hours: A traffic stop by Officer Kovach led to the arrest of a 24 year old male of San Mateo for DUI. He was released from NPD with a citation.

November 26, 2015

0850 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 60 year old transient male and a 51 year old transient male for possessing controlled substances (11377 H&S) and drug paraphernalia (11364 H&S). Both were transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1510 Hours: Officer Horst contacted and arrested a 22 year old male of Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Fremont City Jail.

1522 Hours: Officer Fredstrom was driving on Newark Boulevard, near Jarvis Avenue, and observed a 34 year old male of Newark walking in the middle of the street. He was contacted and determined to be too intoxicated in a public place to care for himself. He was arrested for 647(f) PC and booked at Fremont Jail.

1858 Hours: Officers responded to alarm activations at the old Cinedome building where off-site security was monitoring two suspects on the rooftop via CCTV. With the assistance of the Alameda County Fire Department, both subjects were detained at the scene. A 25 year old male of Hayward was cited and released for trespassing after being placed under citizen’s arrest by security. His 15-year-old brother was reprimanded and released to their mother.

1933 Hours: Officer Homayoun investigated an armed robbery that occurred in the parking lot of Madeira Liquors on Thornton Ave. The suspect was described as wearing all black clothing, and armed with a small handgun.

November 27, 2015

1613 Hours: Officer Fredstrom responded to the Burlington Coat Factory, located at NewPark Mall, for a shoplifter in custody. Officer Fredstrom accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 35 year old transient male for petty theft (PC 484). He was booked into Fremont Jail.

November 28, 2015

1111 Hours: Officer Katz handled a stolen vehicle case. The victim reported his green 1998 Honda Civic license # 6RJM018 stolen from the 37200 block of Cedar Blvd.

2334 Hours: Officer Khairy responded to Macy’s at NewPark Mall regarding two shoplifters who had been detained by security. A 42 year old female and a 32 year old female both of San Jose were caught by Macy’s Loss Prevention stealing a total of $1000 worth of merchandise. Both were cited for the theft. Unfortunately the 42 year old female also had an outstanding felony warrant for possessing a stolen car. So, after being cited for theft, she was transported to Santa Rita Jail for her warrant.

2339 Hours: Officers were dispatched to a vehicle collision in the 36300 block of Christine St. The caller advised that a vehicle sideswiped her parked car and she believed the driver was drunk. Upon arrival, Officer Arroyo contacted a 56 year old male of Newark who was subsequently arrested for DUI. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail.

November 29, 2015

1619 Hours: Officer Mapes conducted a probation search of a residence in the 6300 block of Rockrose Dr. Officer Mapes arrested a 50 year old male of Newark for possession of drug paraphernalia and a 49 year old female of Newark for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were both released on a citation.

1742 Hours: Officer Mapes responded to a non-injury collision involving a parked vehicle at Musick Ave near Hafner St. Upon arrival, Officer Mapes located the involved driver, a 21 year old male of Newark. Officer Mapes determined the driver was under the influence of alcoholic beverages. He was placed under arrest for DUI and was released on a citation to a sober driver at NPD.
