""UPDATE" Crash On I-74 Has One Confirmed Fatality

"UPDATE" Montgomery County-A two Vehicle crash on I-74 WB near the 29 MM (that is five miles west of the 34 exit/US 231) has claimed at least one fatality and sent four others to the hospital.

Indiana State Police and Montgomery County Sheriffs Department were notified at approximately 9:43 p.m.yesterday of a crash involving a white 2008 GMC van driven by Kevin Paul Cverwinski, 51 of Greenfield, WI and a 2002 green Pontiac Grand Prix driven by James D. Daniels, 24 of Danville, IL

Cverwinski was EB in the right lane and Daniels was parked on the side of the emergency lane and had just changed a tire.  Daniels started to merge his Pontiac back into the right lane of I-74 and failed to yield to Cverwinski's van.  The van ran into the rear of the Pontiac sending both vehicles into the right shoulder.

Cverwinski was transported to St Elizabeth Hospital in Crawfordsville, IN with non life threatening injuries.  Daniels and his front seat passenger, Dominique D. Wright, 24 of Danville were also taken to St Elizabeth with non life threatening injuries.  One of the back seat passengers, Lacy Kay Williams, 23 of Danville was transported to Crawfordsville then airlifted to St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with life threatening injuries.  The other rear seat passenger, Jesse Lee Saltzgiver, 18 of Danville was pronounced dead at the scene.  Family has been notified.

No citations have been issued at this time.  It appears that drugs or alcohol may be a contributing factor in the cause of the crash.  Toxicology results are pending..  Seatbelts appeared to be in use by all involved.  All lanes of I-74 are now open.  This crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, Waynetown Marshall, Montgomery County EMS.and the Waynetown Fire and Rescue. 

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Indiana State Police and Montgomery County Sheriffs Department were notified at approximately 9:45 p.m. of a crash involving a white GMC van and a 2002 green Pontiac Grand Prix.  At this time crash reconstructionist from ISP are trying to determine the exact cause of the crash.  There has been one confirmed fatality from the Pontiac.  No other information is available at this time.

Trooper Alaina Zloty along with Trooper David Millburg and officers from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department are on scene.  I-74 WB at the 29 MM will be closed for an undetermined amount of time for cleanup, reconstruction and removal of the injured.  More information will be released as it becomes available.
