Fatal Accident
Dearborn, Mi. — On November 24, 2105 at approximately 6:15am the Dearborn Police Department responded to Michigan and Outer Drive on a report of a pedestrian accident. The officer’s investigation revealed that the female victim, a 57 year old Dearborn Heights resident, was crossing Michigan Avenue on foot, contrary to the red light, in an attempt to get on an eastbound bus which was stopped at the bus stop. The driver of the vehicle, a 47 year old Woodhaven resident, was eastbound on Michigan Avenue, crossing through the green light at Outer Drive, when she struck the female pedestrian. The female victim was transported to Beaumont Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Dearborn Police Department is not releasing the name of the victim until family members can be notified. Dearborn Police Accident Reconstructionist are investigating the incident and the preliminary investigation reveals alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad stated “This is a tragic situation and our condolences go out the families involved. With that being said, I cannot stress the importance of obeying traffic safety laws, statistics have shown compliance to traffic safety laws will mitigate these types of situations.”
