APD officer arrest man after Saturday morning racing incident in north Amarillo.
On Saturday November 21st at 12:50am, an APD officer observed two motorcycles traveling at a very high rate of speed going south on N. Taylor in the 800 block. Immediately behind the motorcycles were two Chevrolet PU’s also traveling at a very high rate of speed. The officer turned in behind the PU’s in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. Both trucks eventually pulled over and stopped in the 300 block of N Taylor. As the officer approached the first driver, the second PU took off leaving the area. The officer advised the driver he was under arrest for Racing and asked him to step out of his vehicle. The driver refused to cooperate and had to be removed from the vehicle. As the officer was placing handcuffs on the driver, the driver kept pulling away from the officer resisting his commands. After struggling for some time, the officer was finally to get the subject handcuffed and placed in a patrol car. A search on the driver indicated that he had an outstanding warrant for Driving While License Invalid. The driver is identified as Billy Joe Rosas H/M37 of Amarillo. Rosas was arrested for Racing on a Highway, Resisting Arrest/Search and for the outstanding warrant.
