Full Notification

At approximately 7:30 Saturday night a Colbert officer stopped to speak with a man walking in town. The officer ran a check on the man and found he had several traffic warrants for his arrest. When the officer attempted to arrest Christopher Lynn Nichols (d.o.b. 8/31/91), he ran from the officer. A short distance away the two came into physical contact with Nichols on top of the officer striking him in the face. The officer pulled out his gun and fired it several times hitting Nichols an unknown number of times. Nichols was transported to Texoma Medical Center. The Bryan County man died shortly after surgery. The Colbert Police Department requested OSBI investigate the shooting. OSBI will not release the officer's name. A full report on the case will be presented to the district attorney as soon as the investigation is complete. It is the district attorney's responsibility to determine whether the shooting was justified.
