The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

November 11, 2015

0908 Hours: Officer Bloom contacted and arrested a 37 year old male of Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

0927 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 53 year old transient male for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1146 Hours: Officer Fredstrom observed a 21 year old female of Newark driving a vehicle on a suspended license. She had been contacted several hours prior in the shift and told of her suspended license status. During a subsequent vehicle search, prior to the vehicle being towed, eight Hydrocodone pills were located in the center console that she admitted to possessing. She was arrested for 4060 B&P (possession of medication without prescription) and 14601.1(a) CVC (drive with suspended license) and later released on a citation.

1551 Hours: Officer Homayoun responded to the NewPark Mall parking lot for three burglarized vehicles. The suspect vehicle was described as a cream colored Chrysler 300 with chrome wheels. Two suspects were seen and are described as a Hispanic male 20-30 years old, heavy set, and wearing dark clothing. The second suspect is a Hispanic female, 20-30 years old, thin build, and with dark curly hair.

2353 Hours: Officers responded to a collision in the 8100 block of Central Avenue involving a solo vehicle. Officer Slater arrested the 58 year old male driver of Union City for DUI and booked him at Fremont Jail. Cal-West and The City of Newark, Public Works Department were also called out to clean up the scene.

November 12, 2015

1320 Hours: A 34 year old male of Newark was contacted and arrested for riding a bicycle under the influence of a controlled substance (H&S 11550(a) & VC 21200.5). He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1726 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 50 year old transient female for possessing drug paraphernalia (H&S 11364.1). She was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1803 Hours: Officer Johnson handled a non-injury traffic collision that occurred at the Cedar Blvd. and Smith Ave. intersection.

2107 Hours: Officer Parks investigated an auto burglary that occurred in the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot at NewPark Mall.

0024 Hours: During a check of a suspicious vehicle parked in front of the Wells Fargo Bank on Jarvis Ave., Officer Johnson arrested a 22 year old female of Union City for possession of heroin. She was cited and released at the scene for 11350(a) H&S.

November 13, 2015

0710 Hours: Officer Fredstrom conducted a traffic stop and contacted a 36 year old male of Redwood City who was unlicensed and found to be a wanted felon from the United States Marshall’s Office for a drug trafficking case. During processing at the Newark Police Department police station, the male was found to be concealing approximately 130 grams of marijuana on his person. He was booked at Fremont Jail for 18 U.S. Code section 3583(d) and 11357(c) H&S.

0857 Hours: Officer Ackerman contacted and arrested a 49 year old male of Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant and for possessing narcotics (11350(a) H&S). He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1002 Hours: Officer Heckman contacted and arrested a 41 year old transient male for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1351 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 51 year old transient female for violating the terms of a domestic violence restraining order, 273.6(a) PC. She was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1554 Hours: NPD Officers responded to the intersection of Haley Street and Bettencourt Street on a report of an injury collision. Officers arrived on scene and learned that one vehicle collided with another vehicle while making a U-turn. Both drivers were injured, with one driver being transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officer Fredstrom conducted the investigated

2212 Hours: Officer Johnson on viewed the driver of a Ford Mustang driving recklessly in the intersection of Jarvis Avenue and Haley Street. Officer Johnson contacted the driver, a 21 year old male of Newark. At the conclusion of his investigation, Officer Johnson arrested the male for 23103 VC- reckless driving, 4060 B&P- unlawful possession of prescription drugs, and 272 PC – child endangerment. He was booked at Fremont Jail and his vehicle was towed.

0122 Hours: Officers were dispatched to a vehicle collision near the intersection of Jarvis Avenue and Lake Blvd. A Ford Mustang traveling too fast on Jarvis Avenue was unable to negotiate the right turn onto Lake Blvd. In doing so, the Mustang hit the center median and rolled over several times. The Mustang’s driver was treated at the scene and refused to go to the hospital. The collision was investigated by Officer Rodgers.

November 14, 2015

0844 Hours: Officer Mapes arrested a 34 year old male of Newark for an outstanding felony warrant (22810 A PC) during a pedestrian stop. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

0926 Hours: Officer Katz arrested a 27 year old male of Newark for a misdemeanor warrant (probation violation) during a pedestrian stop. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

1417 Hours: Officer Mapes arrested a 28 year old male of Newark for 11364.1(a) H&S – possession of drug paraphernalia during a pedestrian stop. He was cited and released.

1508 Hours: During a traffic stop Officers Nobbe and Germano arrested 18 year old female of Newark for possession of over 2 ounces of marijuana. He was cited and released.

1559 Hours: Lt. Loth arrested a 46 year old male of Newark for driving on a suspended license. He was cited and his car was towed.

1712 Hours: Officer Mapes arrested a 38 year old male of Newark for two no-cite warrants during a pedestrian stop. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1617 Hours: Officers Nobbe and Germano investigated a burglary at Public Storage off Fircrest St. The burglary occurred between 10-10-2015 and 11-14-2015. Three spinning bicycles were stolen.

2346 Hours: Officers Johnson and Howcroft located a vehicle parked at the Sportsfield Park (6800 Mowry) and contacted a 20 year old male of Stockton who had a warrant for his arrest. He was cited and released.

0048 Hours: While conducting a security check at O’Sullivan’s Bar, Officers observed a fight in front of the bar entrance and requested emergency assistance from other officers. Three subjects are eventually detained for fighting with security. A 23 year old male of Hayward, a 30 year old male of Livermore, and a 29 year old male of Newark were all arrested for 242PC- battery, 415PC – fighting in public and 647(f) PC – drunk in public.

0334 Hours: Officers were dispatched to investigate a possible burglary at New Park Mall (2086 New Park). Security called to report that unknown suspects force entry through an exterior mall entrance door. A subsequent search of the interior revealed that the suspects burglarized “Sam’s Jewelers” located inside the mall. A review of video footage showed that around 0315hours, two subjects dressed in black, used a hammer to break the glass to the mall entry doors. Once inside they ran to “Sam’s Jewelers” where they use the hammer to break a window, enter the store, force entry into the display cabinets, take property, and then flee.

November 15, 2015

1311 Hours: Officer Nobbe and Officer Mapes conducted a search of the Central Ave bridge- crossing after learning that a 20 year old female was living inside the bridge. She had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants was located living inside the bridge. She was taken into custody and later booked at Santa Rita Jail.

November 16, 2015

0918 Hours: Officer Katz arrested a 57 year old male after conducting a probation search of his home in the 36300 block of LaSalle Dr. During the search of his bedroom, 8 grams of methamphetamine were located along with a glass smoking pipe. He was booked at Fremont Jail for 11377 H&S and 11364.1 H&S.

0940 Hours: Officer Nobbe arrested a 53 year old male after conducting a probation search of his home in the 5800 block of Ravenwood Ave. During the search of his bedroom, 10 grams of methamphetamine were located along with a glass smoking pipe. He was booked at Fremont Jail for 11377 H&S and 11364.1 H&S.

1248 Hours: Officer Musantry and Officer Mapes were responded to a residence on Anjou Place and arrested a 56 year old male for violation of a domestic violence restraining order. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail


November 17, 2015

0727 Hours: Officer Allum responded to an injury traffic collision involving a solo bicyclist that occurred on Cedar Blvd. The bicyclist was transported via ambulance to Kaiser Hospital (Fremont) with a non-life threatening head injury.

1630 Hours: Officer Johnson investigated a hit & run traffic collision that occurred at an unknown time during the day in the parking lot of 7555 Gateway Blvd.

2152 Hours: Officer Kovach arrested a 29 year old male of Newark for a warrant and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a citation for both and released.


November 18, 2015

0711 Hours: Officer Bloom arrested a 40 year old transient female for an outstanding arrest warrant. She was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1701 Hours: Officer Johnson and Officer Homayoun arrested a 34 year old male of Newark for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

2150 Hours: Officers Johnson and Homayoun stopped a vehicle filled with probationers. After a probation search, a 53 year old male of Antioch was arrested for 11377 H&S – possession of methamphetamine and 14601 VC – driving with a suspended driver’s license. He was released with a citation.

2212 Hours: A traffic stop by Officer Slater resulted in 2 arrests. A 49 year old female of Union City was arrested for DUI and a 27 year old female of Newark was arrested for public intoxication. Both females were booked at Santa Rita Jail.

2220 Hours: A collision investigation by Officer Norvell led to the arrest of a 25 year old male of Fremont for 12500 VC- driving without a license. He was released with a citation.

0301 Hours: Officer Norvell investigated a big rig vs. fire hydrant collision in the 8400 block of Central Avenue.

November 19, 2015

1317 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 51 year old transient female for violating the terms of a restraining order (166(a)(4) PC). She was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1432 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 40 year old transient male for possessing drug paraphernalia (11364 H&S). He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.
