LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS FROM AROUND THE STATE SET TO HOST SECOND ANNUAL COMMUNITY BOWLING EVENT TO BENEFIT MORE THAN 11,000 SPECIAL OLYMPICS INDIANA ATHLETES
INDIANAPOLIS – Lots of strikes will take place at the second annual Strikes for Special Olympics Indiana event, Saturday, November 21 at Woodland Bowl (3421 E 96th St, Indianapolis, IN 46240) from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will be hosted by Law Enforcement officers from around the state. The public is welcome and encouraged to register before the event at soindiana.org/strikes-for-special-olympics-indiana/ or on the day of the event at 10:00 a.m., until lanes are full.
“Each year we continue to grow this bowling event with even more participation from officers around the state. Our dedication to the community is the driving force behind our work each day,” said Officer Josh Chapman of Zionsville Police Department and the chairperson of the event. “This same level of heightened support is reflective of our partnership with Special Olympics Indiana and the global Law Enforcement Torch Run movement,” said Chapman.
This event is part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) program, Special Olympics’ largest grass-roots initiative. Teams will compete alongside Special Olympics athletes in a two-game tournament to help raise funds to benefit more than 11,000 Special Olympics Indiana athletes.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1981, when Wichita, Kansas (USA) Police Chief Richard LaMunyon saw an urgent need to raise funds for and increase awareness of Special Olympics. The LETR program was quickly endorsed by Special Olympics, Inc. and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Today, this program is recognized as the founding Law Enforcement Organization of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
