Home Invasion/Hostage Situation

Dearborn, Mi. — The Dearborn Police responded to the 5000 block of Williamson on what was believed to be a family trouble report. On scene officers spoke with a resident who stated he heard a noise inside the home, and upon investigating the noise, he observed an unknown male holding his fifteen year old brother at knife point. The suspect, a nineteen year old Dearborn resident, was holding the fifteen year old hostage with a pair of scissors to the teen’s neck. Officers observed a significant amount of blood on the suspect’s hands, but were uncertain as to who was injured, so they began an immediate dialogue with the suspect. Officers were able to verbally de-escalate the situation, and they talked the suspect into releasing the teen who was unharmed. The officers continued to negotiate with the suspect and convinced him into surrendering peacefully. The suspect was taken into custody, and it was determined that he had a self-inflicted laceration which was the cause of the blood on his hands. The suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad stated “The officers responded quickly and utilized their training to de-escalate a life threatening situation. The fact that this came to a peaceful resolution is a testimony to their professionalism and their commitment to protecting the public.”
