Working Together to Fight Terrorism

With recent terrorism incidents around the world there is a growing concern of “What can citizens do to help prevent these incidents?” and “What should they do once in the middle of an incident?” The Marietta Police Department is taking a step forward and providing information to our community of what to do in these types of situations. Although there is no active threat to the Marietta community the police department is aware of the growing concerns with safety.

The Marietta Police Department has created a terrorism pamphlet that explains what a citizen can do to help keep the community safe. These pamphlets are written in English and Spanish for anyone to print out and keep. The pamphlet includes information such as what you need to know, reporting suspicious activity, bomb threats, emergency plans and important phone numbers in case of an emergency. The pamphlet is a good source for families to read and to establish a plan in case an incident does occur.

“What should they do once in the middle of an incident?” The Marietta Police Department invites you to attend an upcoming seminar on December 9th, 2015 on how to react if you find yourself in the middle of an incident. The seminar is called “Citizen Response to Active Shooter Events” and will be held at the Marietta Performance Art Center located at the Marietta High School, 1171 Whitlock Ave. The seminar will be begin at 6:00pm. Attendees will receive instruction about how to prepare for and respond to being trapped inside a building during an active shooter event. There are several simple steps that those can take to assist law enforcement response and limit the number of potential victims accessible to the shooter. To RSVP for this event email containing your name, phone number and number of attendees to Officer Wallace at [email protected] .
***Participant discretion is advised. This presentation includes some videos and audio recordings from actual events that even while edited, may be difficult for some people to watch or hear.***
