Sonoma County Sheriff's Detectives arrest woman for intentionally striking a crowd with her car outside local bar

On November 14, 2015, at approximately 2:38 a.m., Deputies from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department personnel responded to the El Rey Club at 5344 Sebastopol Road, Santa Rosa in the unincorporated region of Sonoma County. A caller from the nightclub reported an assault, saying that someone had been hit with a bottle and was bleeding from the mouth. There was confusion as voices in the background were heard crying and yelling in Spanish.

Deputies arrived within five minutes and found several people who had been assaulted. They saw injured victims in the parking lot. Ambulances arrived and medical personnel attended to at least five people who were suffering from moderate to major injuries. Deputies determined all the victims had been struck by a motor vehicle leaving the parking lot of the El Rey Club after a physical altercation.

A witness described the driver of a minivan that struck the patrons as a Hispanic female adult with long hair. The witness described her clothing and stature. She was also reportedly the person who had struck the original victim on the head with a beer bottle.

This vehicle was located disabled and unoccupied at the intersection of Ludwig Avenue and Llano Road within minutes of this reported assault. The minivan’s airbags had been deployed and there was moderate damage to the front of the car.

Deputies from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and Officers from the California Highway Patrol went to an address on Dutton Meadows to speak to the registered owner of the car. They learned that the owner of the car, 29 year old Jessica Garcia Leos, had just arrived home. Leos was positively identified as the person who intentionally drove the vehicle into the crowd of people. She was placed under arrest. Because of the seriousness of the crimes, Detectives from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Investigation unit were called-out.

Leos was transported to the Detective bureau for an interview. She complained of pain in her wrist, an injury she suffered at some point during her crimes. She was taken to the hospital for treatment and medically cleared for jail. Leos was booked into Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility for DUI, Assault with a Deadly Weapon resulting in Great Bodily Injury, and Attempted Murder. She is being held without bail and will be arraigned on Tuesday November 17, 2015.

The assault victims struck by the vehicle were transported to local emergency rooms for medical treatment. Four of the victims suffered injuries, were treated and then later released. One victim remains hospitalized in critical condition having suffered very serious injuries.

Because the primary victim in this case had been involved in a relationship with the suspect we are respecting that person’s rights to confidentiality.
