Suspect charged with making Terroristic threats toward Marist College

Details: 2nd UPDATE:
An investigation regarding threatening posts on Twitter towards Marist College has resulted in the arrest of a 16 year old City of Poughkeepsie resident. The male suspect did 'tweet' two times within a 7 hour time span. Those 'tweets' did threaten to commit an offense which created a fear whereupon Marist College closed the campus for a period of time.

A police investigation determined that the threat was not legitimate and the suspect acted on his own.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted by numerous law enforcement agencies (New York State Police, Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, City of Poughkeepsie Police Dept.,FBI, Joint Terrorism Task Force), Dutchess County District Attorney's Office, Marist College Office of Safety and Security and Marist College officials.

UPDATE:
A suspect has been developed regarding the terroristic threat made at Marist College. The investigation is currently ongoing however it has been determined that there is no legitimate threat towards Marist College. An additional press release will be issued later in the day.




At approximately 6:00am on Friday November 13, 2015 the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was notified by the Marist College Office of Safety & Security that an online threat was sent out via Twitter against Marist College.

An investigation is currently under way in cooperation with Twitter, college officials and other law enforcement agencies. In addition, there is a police presence on the campus. Marist College has cancelled classes for today until further notice and will update as necessary.

Arrest Information

The suspect was charged with Making A Terroristic Threat, Penal Law Sec. 490.40, class D felony.

The name of the 16 year old suspect is being withheld due to a possible Youthful Offender status.
