Suspect arrested for pointing a laser at a news helicopter.

LOCATION: Pomona Civic Center, Pomona Ca.
CRIME: 247.5 PC Discharge laser at aircraft
VICTIM: KTLA 5 helicopter
SUSPECT: 15 year old male juvenile
SUSPECT VEHICLE: n/a
UNIT: Patrol Division
NARRATIVE:
On today's date at 2004 hours, PPD officers were notified of a laser being discharged at a news helicopter in the area of the Civic Center (Mission Blvd. and Garey Ave.) The helicopter was in the area covering a traffic collision when it was hit with a laser from within the civic center area.

The crew was able to video the suspect and follow him until officers were ultimately led to his location. The suspect, a 15 yr. old male, was taken into custody without incident and the laser was retrieved. The suspect was arrested on felony charges and released to the custody of his parents.

The Pomona Police Department would like to remind everyone that discharging a laser at any aircraft is a felony and is extremely hazardous.
