ISP Working Crash Involving Eskenazi Ambulance

Indianapolis, IN- A three vehicle crash this evening involving an Eskenazi ambulance has resulted in several people being transported to local hospitals.

This evening, Monday November 9th, 2015, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Indiana State Troopers were dispatched to a three vehicle crash on I-65 SB at the 115.8 mm involving an Eskenazi ambulance.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Ford truck entered I-65 SB from the 117 exit (Martin Luther King) and hydroplaned causing the male driver to lose control. The truck struck a Chrysler van, being operated by a female with her parents as passengers, in the middle lane. Both vehicles spun and struck an Eskenazi ambulance in the left lane which struck the median concrete barrier. The ambulance was transporting a patient and had a medic and driver on board. The ambulance was not on an emergency run and did not have the lights and siren in operation.

The driver of the truck was not injured and was not transported. All three occupants of the van were transported to Methodist Hospital with reported minor injuries. The driver of the ambulance was not injured and was not transported. The ambulance medic was transported to Eskenazi Hospital and their patient was transported to Methodist Hospital. Injuries to the medic and patient were unknown.

The SB lanes of I-65 in the area of the crash were closed or restricted for approximately an hour and half while the crash was investigated and the wreckage cleared.
