Carpinteria Woman Fatally Injured By a Passenger Train

A Carpinteria woman was fatally injured when she was struck by a train last night, November 6, near the Carpinteria Train Station at Linden Avenue and 5th Street. At approximately 6:50 p.m. an Amtrak passenger train headed southbound was coming around the corner into the Carpinteria Train Station traveling at about 50-55 miles per hour when the conductor saw an adult female standing on the tracks. The conductor applied emergency braking but the train was not able to stop in time and struck the female. Before she was hit, the victim appeared to be trying to get out of the way of the train.

The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Kathleen Teisher of Carpinteria. The Sheriff’s Coroner’s Unit is conducting an investigation into the cause and manner of death. At this point, the incident appears to be accidental. It will take several weeks for toxicology results to determine if alcohol or drugs played a factor in her death.
