Metro Detail Detectives Arrest Serial Armed Robbery Suspect, November 3, 2015 #LASD

On November 3, 2015, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department  Major Crimes Bureau –  Metro Detail detectives arrested a suspect regarding his involvement in a series of fifteen known armed robberies of convenience stores, occurring in various areas, throughout Southeast Los Angeles County and North Orange County.  It was determined at least seven of the armed robberies occurred in areas patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

At approximately 8 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, Metro Detail detectives were alerted to an armed robbery occurring in the city of Buena Park.  It was reported the suspect in the Buena Park robbery and the suspect in the robberies being investigated by the Metro Detail detectives, was one in the same.  Detectives responded to an area near Stage Road and Beach Boulevard, which borders the city of La Mirada, in Los Angeles County, an area familiar to investigators due to previous follow-ups in the area, while investigating the other robberies.

Detectives saturated the area canvassing the vicinity for the suspect and his newer model black Nissan-Versa, which had been captured on surveillance video during the commission of numerous previous armed robberies. While detectives scoured the area, a man matching the description of the suspect involved in the robberies being investigated and a vehicle matching the suspect’s vehicle, were located at a liquor store in the area of Stage Road and Alondra Boulevard, in La Mirada.

Due to the striking similarities of the suspect and his vehicle, to that of the armed robbery suspect being investigated by detectives, the suspect was followed to the city of Hawaiian Gardens. The suspect driving the Nissan-Versa and his female passenger were stopped by deputies in a residential area of Hawaiian Gardens.Once the suspect was detained, it was determined there was reasonable cause to believe he was responsible for some, if not all of the armed robberies being investigated.

The suspect, a permanent resident of Hawaiian Gardens, was currently residing in the city of La Mirada, near where he was initially spotted by detectives. After the suspect’s arrest on suspicion of armed robbery, a search warrant was secured for a location in the city of La Mirada.A search of the location brought about the recovery of a 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun matching the appearance of the handgun used by the suspect in previous armed robberies.Additional evidence was recovered linking the suspect to multiple armed robberies.During further investigation, the suspect was also identified by multiple victims of the armed robberies being investigated.

The suspect, a 38-year-old man, was booked at a local Sheriff’s Station for armed robbery and is awaiting a court appearance, with a bail set at $110,000.00.

The suspect’s identity and photograph are not being released at this time, pending additional witness identifications, via photographs, as well as further investigation.
