Chemical Endangerment Arrest

(Etowah County, Alabama) An Attalla woman has been arrested for chemical endangerment of a child, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

"Crystal Dawn Nelson, 33, of Attalla, was arrested and charged with chemical endangerment of exposing a child to an environment in which controlled substances are ingested, produced or distributed, which is a felony,” investigator Brandi Fuller said.

Nelson, knowing she was pregnant, admitted to using methamphetamine the day before her baby’s birth and to taking Roxicodone on the day of her baby’s birth. She tested positive for benzodiazepines, opiates and amphetamine. Her newborn baby also tested positive for the same drugs.

Nelson is currently being detained in the Etowah County Detention Center on $10,000 bond. She also has two probation revocation warrants without bonds.
