Scam Alert!! It's NOT the IRS

Your phone rings and the caller claims to be from the IRS. The person on the line is very aggressive, even threatening you with jail time or a lawsuit if you don't pay taxes you owe to the federal government.

Anytime a caller is asking for money, IT IS A SCAM. Do not give personal information and hang up immediately.

The IRS will NEVER:

• Call you to demand immediate payment. The IRS will not call if you owe taxes without first sending a bill in the mail.
• Demand you pay taxes and not allow you to question or appeal the amount you owe.
• Require that you pay your taxes a certain way. For instance, require that you pay with a prepaid debit card.
• Ask for your credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
• Theaten to bring in law enforcement agencies to arrest you for not paying.

If you receive this kind of a phone call, report it to the IRS by calling (800) 366-4484. If you know you owe or think you may owe tax, call the IRS at (800) 829-1040. For more tips, visit https://goo.gl/18POrU.
