Officer’s dedication to duty and attention to detail causes apprehension of burglary suspect
Because of his attention to detail and dedication to his job, a Jackson Police Department officer was able to apprehend a criminal who had burglarized a vehicle and get the stolen property returned to its owner, said Police Chief Julian Wiser.
Sgt. John Chew was patrolling through the parking lot of 126 Old Medina Crossing when he saw a broken window on a parked vehicle. The officer also noticed someone sitting inside a car that was within the vicinity of the damaged vehicle.
“The officer’s attention to detail, excellent patrol techniques and ability to thoroughly investigate a case led to the apprehension of a burglary suspect who was arrested for Investigation of Auto Burglary, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Handgun While under the Influence,” Chief Wiser said. The suspect also had property that was identified as stolen. The stolen property was later returned to its owner.
Law enforcement usually notices a spike in thefts and burglaries with the onset of the holiday shopping season, Chief Wiser said. “Criminals are looking for crimes of opportunity.”
Like Sgt. Chew, officers of the Jackson Police Department know to be extra vigilant during the holiday season. The police department also asks the community to work together and with officers to help keep Jackson safe.
“We all want the holiday shopping season to be safe and remain a time of joy for all citizens of this community,” Chief Wiser said.
