The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

October 27, 2015

1234 Hours: Sgt Kovach was checking a parked vehicle on Milani St., when he contacted a 25 year old female of Newark. Sgt Kovach noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the inside of her vehicle. During a subsequent search of her purse, Sgt Kovach not only found marijuana, but also a loaded Glock 17 9mm handgun. She was booked at Santa Rita Jail for 25800(a)PC - person armed with a handgun and 25400(a)(2)PC - carrying a concealed firearm .

1915 Hours: Officer Geser responded to a disturbance involving a male and female. The male was restrained via a court order from the female. Officer Geser located the 49 year old male of Newark and arrested him for the restraining order violation. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

2027 Hours: Officers responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 8100 block of Peachtree Avenue. The caller stated a female was armed with a knife and a Taser inside of the residence. Upon arrival, officers encountered a 52 year old male of Newark yelling and banging on the front door with a machete. Officers were able to get the male to drop the machete. It was ultimately determined, the male made death threats to the female inside the house who armed herself with a knife and a Taser. The male was arrested for 422 PC- making deadly threats and booked at Santa Rita Jail.

October 28, 2015

0602 Hours: NPD Officers were dispatched to the 76 Gas Station, located at 5799 Mowry Ave, for a vehicle theft that just occurred. A Hispanic male, 6’00”, 300 lbs, and wearing a construction hat stole a Ford F250 while the victim was inside the convenience store. Officer Bloom arrived and was able to track the victim’s truck to the area of 5th St and G St, in Union City. Union City Police Department responded and located the unoccupied vehicle.

1320 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated an auto burglary that occurred on Friday night (10-24-15) at the Sycamore Bay Apartments, located at 37101 Sycamore Street. The victim reported that unknown suspect(s) smashed the side window of his pickup truck and stole a red North Face backpack from the back seat. There are no suspects or investigative leads at this time.

1520 Hours: Officer Bloom contacted and arrested a 19 year old male of Fremont for his outstanding arrest warrant. He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1525 Hours: Officer Bloom contacted and arrested a 19 year old male of Berkeley for an outstanding arrest warrant and for providing a false name to a peace officer (PC 148.9). He was transported and booked into Fremont PD Jail.

1702 Hours: While checking a vehicle in the 7-11 Store parking lot (39620 Cedar Blvd), Officer’s Johnson and Homayoun contacted a 30 year old male of Hayward and a 41 year old female of Livermore. The male was arrested for 11377 H&S- possession of methamphetamine, 148.9 PC- providing a false name to police, and a no-cite warrant. The female was arrested for 148.9 PC – providing a false name to police. Both were booked at Fremont Jail.

2345 Hours: Officers responded to EZ 8 Motel, located at 5555 Cedar Ct, for disturbance. As a result, Officer Slater arrested a 53 year old male of San Leandro for 273.5 PC- felony domestic violence. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

October 29, 2015

1256 Hours: A team of NPD Officers conducted a security check of the homeless encampment on Highway 84, near Ardenwood Blvd. A 50 year old transient female was contacted and found to have an outstanding arrest warrant. Officer Fredstrom arrested the female and she was booked at Fremont Jail.

1639 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 31 year old male of Fremont for an outstanding arrest warrant. He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1321 Hours: Officer Ackerman responded to the area of Newark Blvd and Ardenwood Terrace for a battery report. Officer Ackerman accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 45 year old transient female for battery (PC 242). She was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1909 Hours: During a warrant service at a residence on Colbert St., Officer Homayoun arrested a 25 year old male of Newark for two misdemeanor warrants. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

2137 Hours: Officer Horst handled a citizen’s arrest/shoplifting case at the NewPark Mall Macy’s store. A 31 year old female of Sacramento was booked at Fremont PD Jail for 484(a) PC.

October 30, 2015

1057 Hours: Officer Ackerman contacted and arrested a 39 year old male of Newark for his outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1151 Hours: Officer Knutson responded to the NewPark Mall Macy’s for a shoplifter in custody. Officer Knutson accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 51 year old male of Oakland for petty theft (PC 484). He also had an outstanding arrest warrant and was booked at Fremont Jail.

1457 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 30 year old transient male for an outstanding arrest warrant and for providing false identification to a peace officer (PC 148.9). He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1843 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a residential burglary that occurred in the 6000 on Campanula Ct. between 9 AM and 6 PM. The suspects entered through a rear door.

2137 Hours: Officer Slater investigated an auto burglary at Ray’s Crab Shack, 5989 Mowry Ave. Entry into the car was via a shattered window. The theft occurred between 8:50 PM and 9:35 PM.

October 31, 2015

0858 Hours: Officer Mapes arrested a 32 year old male of Newark for several warrants. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

1245 Hours: Officers responded to Macy’s located at NewPark Mall regarding a robbery. Macy’s Loss prevention was struggling to arrest a suspect for shoplifting. The 46 year old male suspect of Oakland had attempted to steal a metal display with four Michael Kors purses attached worth over $1,300.00 dollars. As the suspect fled the store, he was ordered to stop by Loss Prevention. The suspect turned and raised the metal display in a threatening manner. The Loss Prevention agents were able to tackle the suspect. He was arrested and later booked at Santa Rita Jail for robbery and violation of his probation.

2319 Hours: NPD received a 911 call from a male subject stating he had just been shot at in Newark. Officers learned the victim had just arrived home in the 37100 block of Oak St., when a vehicle pulled up; described as a newer model, grey SUV. A male adult, 30-40 year old, with long curly hair, overweight, and wearing a grey sweater and pants, approached him and demanded money. When the victim refused the suspect pulled out a pistol and fired one round toward the ground. The victim was not injured.

0007 Hours: Officers responded to a battery that just occurred in the area of Newark Blvd. and Jarvis Ave. Officer Losier arrested a 20 year old male of Newark for 243(e)(1) PC- domestic violence battery. He was booked at the Santa Rita Jail.

0126 Hours: A 32 year old male of Newark was contacted during a traffic stop and arrested for 21352(a) CVC -DUI. He was booked at the Santa Rita Jail. The rear passenger in the car, a 34 year old male of Newark, was also arrested for public intoxication. The passenger was booked at Fremont Jail.

0524 Hours: Officer Johnson conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 31 year old male of Union City for 23247(e) CVC – no interlock device on the vehicle. An interlock device is required for people who have a prior conviction for DUI. He was released on a citation.

November 1, 2015

1344 Hours: Officer Neithercutt arrested a 20 year old male of Newark for 11357(a) H&S – possession of concentrated cannabis. He was issued a citation and released.

1414 Hours: Officer Neithercutt spotted a male stripping copper wire in his garage in the 37800 block of Birch St. Officer Neithercutt contacted a 53 year old male of Newark. A probation search of the male was conducted and a small amount of methamphetamine was located. He was arrested for 11377 H&S and released on a citation.

2315 Hours: Officer Slater investigated a domestic violence incident that occurred at a residence on Dichondra Place. A 41 year old male of Newark was booked at Santa Rita Jail for 273.5(a)PC – felony domestic violence.
