Halloween safety tips:

As you know Halloween is on Saturday, giving trick-or-treaters and their parents the comfort of not having to worry about school the next day! This may mean that youngsters will be out later than usual, increasing the need to be extra careful as it gets darker.

Here are a few things to consider to keep this a safe Halloween:

Drive slower than normal in residential areas.

Costumes should never obstruct your child’s vision (use make-up or masks with large eye holes).

Bright colors and reflective materials are best for costumes. Large, flapping and billowing costumes could be dangerous and cause tripping.

Costume accessories should not be carried unless they are soft and flexible.

Parents should walk with their children and not follow in cars, due to the added distractions.

Trick-or-treaters should always walk on sidewalks and cross only at corners or intersections. The use of a flashlight is also highly recommended.

Parents, always check your child’s items for any signs of tampering or foreign objects.

Halloween can be fun for everyone! Using some common sense and keeping safety in mind will make it safe and fun!
