Felony Warrants and Impairment Discovered after Speeding Driver Stopped

Vigo County—This morning at 10:57, Indiana State Police Master Trooper Jason Schoffstall radar tracked an eastbound 2013 Chevrolet Impala, traveling at 67 miles-per-hour in a 30 mph zone, on Hulman Street near Watertree Subdivision.

During discussions with the driver, Schoffstall noticed the smell of what appeared to be burnt marijuana and that the driver displayed classic signs of possible intoxication. The driver was offered a chemical test for intoxication, but refused. He was incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail on charges of Operating While Intoxicated (Refusal) and Driving While Suspended.

Arrested:                     Calvin R. Davis, age 44, of Indianapolis, IN.

A routine check of Davis’s driver’s license revealed he had no valid license and was wanted out of Vigo County Superior Court 3 for count 1: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon; Count 2: Battery by Deadly Weapon; Count 3: Intimidation; Count 4: Carrying a Handgun without a License (Misdemeanor) and Count 5: Carrying a Handgun without a License (felony). The bond on the warrant was $75,000 with no 10%.

Assisting was Master Trooper Hans Nowak.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
