Green Bay PD Recognizes Officer with Ashley Knetzger OWI Enforcement Award

On Thursday, October 22, 2015 at night shift roll call, we recognized five night shift patrol officers for their OWI enforcement efforts in 2014.

The presentation outlined some powerful statistics regarding how Green Bay Police efforts are making a difference and saving lives. The statistics outlined in the attachment reflect the reductions in OWI related deaths, crashes, and injuries in Brown County since 2010, which is when the OWI task force was launched.

Officer Nick Walvort was presented with the Ashley Knetzger OWI Enforcement Award. He had 53 arrests with an average blood alcohol content of 0.16 %BAC.

Other officers were also recognized for their efforts in making our streets safer through OWI enforcement. They were:
Officer Matt Knutson – 34 Arrests, Avg. BAC 0.16%
Officer Rod Reetz – 32 Arrests, Avg. BAC 0.14%
Officer Ben Schindel – 29 Arrests, Avg. BAC 0.18%
Officer Casey Masiak – 27 Arrests, Avg. BAC 0.18%

In total, the Green Bay Police Department recorded 700 OWI Arrests in 2014 with an average BAC of 0.18%. The attached chart shows the number of drunk driving crashes since 2010 and the numbers of people killed and injured in them in the City of Green Bay. While the numbers are trending downward, we still have too many drinking and driving related tragedies.

In summary, the Knetzger family and the families of many others, within and outside of this police department who have been impacted by drunk driving, THANK ALL POLICE for their efforts in taking dangerous drivers off our roads. We also thank each and everyone of you for being "protectors of all" and for making a difference in the lives of others.

Stay safe!

The Knetzger Family
