**Compton Deputies practiced Commendable Restraint**
The Compton Sheriff Station received a dramatic man with a gun call at the 99 Cents store located at 1320 East Alondra Boulevard, Compton. The caller stated a deranged man was standing in front of the store armed with a handgun. The assigned deputies tactically coordinated responding patrol units to the location. When the deputies and sergeant arrived they saw the man identified in the call, walking in front of the store. The man appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine. The deputies also saw a handgun tucked inside the man’s front pocket. The deputies feared for the safety of those in the area with customers coming and going from the store entrance. The deputies, with their guns drawn, quickly approached and safely apprehended the man.
The deputies recovered a replica Smith & Wesson semiautomatic handgun from the man. The male was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled stimulant. The deputies are to be commended for both their tactics and their judgment. They handled a potentially deadly encounter in a professional manner and demonstrated outstanding maturity and restraint.
