On October 22, 2015, at 7:53 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was provided information of a threat against El Rancho High School, located in the city of Pico Rivera, was posted on social media.

A Twitter account, allegedly belonging to a student from El Rancho High School, sent a message out indicating the student planned to “shoot up the school” with a firearm.  He also indicated he wanted to bomb the school.  Through Department resources, the student was identified and confirmed to be enrolled at the school.

The school was immediately placed on lockdown and the student was located on campus.   He was safely detained by Pico Rivera Sheriff’s deputies without incident.  He was not in possession of a weapon at the time of his detention.  No students or faculty were injured during this incident.  The investigation is on-going. 

El Rancho High School is no longer on lockdown and has resumed all normal activities.
