Twitter threats prompt lockdown of El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera

On October 22, 2015, at 7:53 AM, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department obtained information that a threat against El Rancho High School, located in Pico Rivera, was posted on social media.

A Twitter account, allegedly belonging to a student from El Rancho High School, sent a message out earlier in the morning indicating the student planned to “shoot up the school” with a firearm.  He also indicated he wanted to bomb the school. Investigators identified the account holder as a student currently enrolled at the school.

The school was immediately placed on lockdown and the student was located on campus.   He was safely detained by Pico Rivera Sheriff’s deputies without incident.  He was not in possession of a weapon at the time of his detention.  No students or faculty were injured during this incident.

Investigators determined there was no longer a threat to campus safety and El Rancho High School was taken off  lockdown.  All normal activities have resumed on campus.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Pico Rivera Station at (562) 949-2421.  If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), or texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.
