Two more suspects charged with burglarizing Old Fort home in April and conspiring to rob couple

Detective Billie Brown of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Nathaniel Allen Penley, 28, of Edwards Loop in Old Fort, and Matthew Lynn Goldsmith, 40, of Lackey Town Road in Old Fort, each with the felonies of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Robert and Patricia Freeman, of Conner Ridge Road in Old Fort, reported that they awoke at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, April 13 to find three men standing in their bedroom pointing pistols at them. The suspects demanded money. As Robert jumped up from the bed to give chase to the perpetrators, Patricia said another man outside the open bedroom window pushed in the screen and fired shots from a pellet gun. One pellet struck Robert in the back of the head.
Brown said an extensive investigation led to Penley and Goldsmith.
Another suspect, 17-year-old Daniel Colton Freeman, of Edwards Loop, was charged with the crime in July.
More arrests are forthcoming.
