CITY COUNCIL APPROVES $11.25 MILLION IN PROJECTS FROM BUDGET SURPLUS
At their meeting last night, the City of Santa Ana Mayor and City Council unanimously approved the allocation of $11.25 million in one-time surplus funds from the 2014-15 fiscal year. The decision comes after a three-month collaborative effort between the City Council, City staff, and stakeholders which identified community needs.
The allocation of funds will support one-time deferred maintenance, capital needs, and provide funding for the first year of the City’s Information Technology Strategic Plan. Projects and community benefits include recreation center improvements, park security lighting, purchase of police body cameras, funding for homeless issues, seed funding for a pension stability fund, and the general plan update.
City Staff will begin work immediately on the 43 projects that received funding. The majority of these projects are anticipated to be completed in the next 8-15 months and will be coordinated with other close to $70 million in capital improvement projects throughout the City.
