Hit & Run 3700 Block of International Boulevard - Investigators Looking for Drivers of Vehicles
On Monday, October 19, 2015, just after 3:00 AM, Oakland Police officers responded to the 3700 block of International Boulevard on a report of a person in the roadway armed with a machete. When officers arrived on-scene, the man was still armed with the machete. Officers directed him to put it down. He was cooperative, and police safely detained him.
Witnesses at the scene advised that the man had been in the roadway throwing bottles and attempting to break out the windows of parked cars. The man, a 25-year-old Oakland resident, was also hitting the windows of cars driving by with his machete. Witnesses told the officers that it appeared that one driver had intentionally hit the man and that he was struck a second time by a car driving through the area. Both drivers failed to stop. Investigators are looking for a newer RED or MAROON 4-door HYUNDAI and a newer WHITE 4-door TOYOTA CAMRY or similar model. (SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS OBTAINED FROM AREA VIDEO SURVEILLANCE).
Officers requested medical personnel to the scene and the man was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and placed on a psychiatric detention. Currently, OPD investigators from the Felony Assault Unit are investigating this incident as assaults with deadly weapons. They are looking for the drivers of the two vehicles involved. Investigators continue to follow up with witnesses and to check for additional video surveillance footage as well as review videos posted on You Tube.
Crime Stoppers of Oakland is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to an arrest in this case.
Anyone with information about the vehicles or drivers is asked to contact the Felony Assault Unit at (510) 238-3426.
