The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

October 13, 2015

0755 Hours: Officer Khairy responded to a non-injury traffic collision that occurred at the intersection of Cedar Blvd. and Mowry Ave.

1247 Hours: Officer Rodgers investigated the burglary of a garage at the Sycamore Bay Apartments (37171 Sycamore Street) that occurred between 1830 hours last night and 0630 hours this morning. The loss was a 52” flat screen TV and 6 firearms.

1428 Hours: Officer Jackman handled a citizen’s arrest/shoplifting case at the NewPark Mall Macy’s store. A 34 male from Fremont was cited and released for shoplifting.

1942 Hours: Officers Rodgers invested a two vehicle collision on Thornton Avenue at Cedar Boulevard. One driver had a complaint of pain and was transported to the Hospital.

October 14, 2015

0940 Hours: Officer Jackman arrested a 57 year old transient male for a felony warrant during a security check of a homeless encampment on Newark Blvd. near Highway 84. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

1029 Hours: During another security check of an industrial complex on Central Ave., Officer Jackman arrested a 41 year old transient male for a misdemeanor. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.

2048 Hours: Officer Jackman responded to Macy’s and accepted the arrest of two adult females for shoplifting. A 23 year old female of Union City and a 18 year old female of Hayward were both were released from the scene with a citation.

October 15, 2015

1552 Hours: Officer Horst contacted and arrested a 28 year old male of Newark for possessing a controlled substance (11377(a) H&S). He was transported and booked into the Fremont PD Jail.

1915 Hours: Officer Homayoun handled a non-injury traffic collision that occurred at the intersection of Thornton Ave. and Gateway Blvd.

1940 Hours: After responding to a family disturbance call on Dichondra Pl., Officer Taylor arrested a 45 year old male of Fremont for a felony warrant and three misdemeanor warrants. He was booked at Fremont PD Jail.


October 16, 2015

0720 Hours: Officer Allum responded to the area of 37171 Sycamore St, for a vehicle collision. A driver involved sustained minor injuries and declined emergency medical treatment.

0800 Hours: Officer Allum responded to the area of Cherry St, near Mowry Ave, for a vehicle collision. Two vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

0946 Hours: Officer Bloom contacted and arrested a 40 year old female of Fremont for possessing drug paraphernalia (11364.1 H&S). She was issued a citation and released.

1015 Hours: A citizen responded to the Newark Police Department to report a Hit & Run collision (Auto v. Pedestrian). The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and declined emergency medical treatment. Officer Allum is investigating the collision.

1101 Hours: Officer Allum responded to the area of Thornton Ave, and Cedar Blvd for a vehicle collision. A single vehicle collided with a guard rail and no injuries were reported.

1117 Hours: Officer Knutson contacted and arrested a 20 year old male of Fremont for possessing concentrated cannabis (11357(a) H&S). He was issued a citation and released.

1227 Hours: Officer Allum responded to the area of Newark Blvd and Jarvis Ave for a vehicle collision. One driver involved sustained minor injuries but declined emergency medical treatment.

1457 Hours: Officer Ackerman contacted and arrested a 46 year old male of Newark for possessing narcotics (11350(a) H&S). He was issued a citation and released.

1923 Hours: Officer Simon investigated a collision on Thornton Ave at Cedar Boulevard where a solo vehicle struck a power line. Cal West responded for a down traffic signal pole. The driver a 26 year old male of San Jose was transported to a local hospital. The driver was cited for DUI.

2327 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a collision on Jarvis Avenue at Kiote Dr. While traveling westbound on Jarvis, the driver, a 27 year old male of North Highlands, did not complete the north turn in the road and continued straight into the oncoming lane, over the center median, and eventually into the curb line along the east side of the Aloft Hotel parking lot. He was arrested for 23152(a) &(b) VC- DUI and booked at Fremont PD Jail

October 17, 2015

0821 Hours: Officer Mapes arrested a 45 year old male of Newark for his outstanding no cite misdemeanor warrant. He was booked at Fremont Jail.

1932 Hours: Officer Khairy arrested a 24 year old male of Newark for a no cite warrant for assault out of San Jose PD. He was transported to Fremont PD Jail.

2056 Hours: CSO Parks investigated a window smash auto burglary in the lower level of the NewPark Mall parking structure that occurred between 1942-2056 hours. Loss was electronics and jewelry.

0025 Hours: Sgt Macias contacted a 22 male of Fremont during a solo vehicle traffic collision investigation. The collision occurred on Newark Boulevard near Thornton Avenue. He was ultimately arrested for 23152(a) VC - DUI and transported to Fremont PD Jail.

October 18, 2015

1103 Hours: Officer Neithercutt spotted a vehicle driving erratically on Cedar Blvd at Stevenson Blvd. A traffic stop was conducted and a 51 year old male of Newark was contacted. He was arrested for DUI and released on a citation.

1315 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a traffic collision at Birch St and Bitterroot Av. The victim, an 18 year old male, was riding his bicycle when he lost control and crashed into the rear of a parked vehicle. The victim was launched from his bike through the rear windshield of the vehicle. The victim suffered visible injuries to his face and head. The victim was transported to a local hospital. The victim’s injuries though severe do not appear to be life threatening.

1935 Hours: Officer Simon conducted a traffic stop on Cedar Boulevard near Port Sailwood and contacted the driver, a 32 year old male of Fremont, after the driver almost struck Officer Simon’s vehicle upon exiting the Home Depot parking lot. The driver was placed under arrest for 23152(a)VC – DUI and for 14601.1(a)VC – driving with a suspended drivers license. He was transported to Fremont PD Jail.

2100 Hours: Victim from a residence on Quicksilver Ave reported that a dark colored SUV just drove across his lawn and collided with his mailbox. He observed the vehicle flee eastbound toward Rubicon Ave. Another neighbor provided the vehicle license plate and pointed out that it was parked halfway into another neighbor’s driveway at in the 6200 block of Quicksilver Ave. The driver was identified and was subsequently arrested for DUI. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

2301 Hours: Officer Simon investigated a domestic disturbance at 37171 Sycamore St where a 38 year old male of Newark was arrested for domestic violence battery. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

October 19, 2015


2031 Hours: Officer Kovach investigated an assault with a deadly weapon and theft at the Spirit Halloween Store. Two adult females stole a bag full of merchandise and fled to their vehicle in the parking lot. The store manager followed to take a picture of the suspect vehicle at which time the driver, struck the manager sending him over the hood of the vehicle. The manager was treated at the scene for his injuries. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Newark Police Department.

2055 Hours: Officers responded to a residence on Anjou Place for a report of a family disturbance. A 56 year old male of Newark was intoxicated and upset his family took his car keys. Officer Mavrakis arrived and arrested the male for being drunk in public. The male was booked at Fremont Jail. Thank you to the family for preventing a drunk driver from endangering our community.

2256 Hours: Officer Kovach investigated a vehicle collision at Cherry Street/Mowry Avenue. The responsible driver a 26 year old male of Fremont was arrested for driving without a license and no identification. He was booked at Fremont Jail.
