Putnamville—On September 21, 2015, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter announced the reclassification of Trooper Michael L. Featherling to the position of detective. Detective Featherling attained his new criminal investigation position through written testing and a competitive interview process. He now joins a compliment of six other detectives as well as two crime scene investigators, and one cyber-crime investigator within the Criminal Investigation Division of the Putnamville District. Featherling will primarily work criminal investigations in Clay County.

Detective Featherling graduated from the Indiana State Police 71st Recruit Class in 2012 and was assigned to the Putnamville Post, patrolling primarily Clay County.

While serving as a road trooper, Detective Featherling served on the Tactical Intervention Platoon, obtained his Federal Methamphetamine Clandestine Lab Certification and served periodically on the Putnamville Meth Suppression Team. Prior to graduation from the ISP Recruit Academy, Featherling served three years with the Indiana Capitol Police.

Featherling is a graduate of Sullivan Illinois High School and later attended Lakeland College and the University of Indianapolis. He is married with two children and the family resides in Parke County.

“Detective Featherling has the necessary skillsets and work ethic needed for this position and will make a fine addition to our investigative team “, commented First Sergeant Jeff Hearon, Commander of Criminal Investigations at the Putnamville Post.

The Putnamville District is comprised of Parke, Vermillion, Clay, Putnam, Vigo, and Sullivan counties.
