United Way of Inner Wisconsin’s Volunteer Center Seeks Volunteers to Rake Yards Oct. 24

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI – United Way of Inner Wisconsin’s Volunteer Center is seeking groups of volunteers to help rake yards for local elderly/disabled individuals on October 24th during its “Day of Caring” event. Day of Caring will kick off at 9:00am at the Grand Rapids Lion’s Club at the intersection of County Trunk W and 36th St. S., Wisconsin Rapids.

“We are looking for student groups, church groups, families and groups of co-workers to help out,” said Amy Fluno, Day of Caring Coordinator. “You can grab a rake and a group of friends and volunteer for a good cause. If you can’t find anybody, come anyway and we’ll match you up with a group!”

Volunteers can register their groups online at www.uwiw.org (click on Day of Caring); or by calling 715-421-0390. Youth under the age of 18 will need a waiver signed by a parent or guardian (also available at www.uwiw.org).

Volunteers who wish to participate can also come to the Grand Rapids Lion’s Club at 9:00am to receive their raking assignments. Volunteers need to provide their own rakes, gloves, and their own transportation. Younger volunteers may need to be supervised by an adult. Home owners will provide the bags (if needed). Last year, 250 volunteers participated in Day of Caring and raked 66 yards.

“During Day of Caring, we will also be holding a personal essentials drive for Catholic Charities/Acorn Apartments,” said Amy. “You can help out a local disabled individual who perhaps cannot afford basic necessities such as soap, shampoo, or toilet paper. We will be collecting these items Oct. 24th and will deliver them to people in need.”

All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and lunch. Lunch sponsors include: the Grand Rapids Lion’s Club, Pepsi Beverage Company and Subway. Lunch will be served from 12:00 – 2:00pm at the Grand Rapids Lion’s Club.

This year’s t-shirt sponsors are the Wisconsin Rapids Noon Rotary Club and the Wisconsin Rapids Kiwanis Club. We also thank the Grand Rapids Lion’s Club for the use of their facilities, providing volunteers and donating food, paper plates, napkins, utensils, etc.

For more information on how to get involved, please contact Amy Fluno, Day of Caring Coordinator, at 715-421-0390 or [email protected]. There is no rain date; however, projects may be completed at a later date if there is inclement weather.
