Updated With Photo: Ten Year Old Dies in Miami County Crash

Macy – Last night at approximately 6:37 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Miami County Road 1200 North and Miami County Road 100 West, in which a ten-year-old Miami County girl was killed.

The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Michael Biggs revealed that Lori Herrell, 44, Macy, IN was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on County Road 100 West.  Andrez McGee, 37, Logansport, IN was driving a 1999 Dodge pickup truck westbound on County Road 1200 North. McGee allegedly disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of County Road 100 West and hit the Chevrolet in the front passenger door. Both vehicles ended up in a field northwest of the intersection. The Chevrolet rolled at least once, coming to rest on its top. The Dodge came to rest on its side and caught on fire. Denver firefighters extinguished the blaze. McGee climbed out of the burning vehicle prior to first responders arriving.

Sara Herrell, 10, Macy, IN, a front seat passenger in the Chevrolet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Lori Herrell was flown, by medical helicopter, from the crash scene to a Ft. Wayne hospital. She suffered non-life threatening injuries. McGee was also flown from the crash scene to a Ft. Wayne hospital. He suffered life threatening internal injuries.

This crash is still under investigation. At this time, evidence indicates the consumption of alcohol, by McGee, is a contributing factor in this crash.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
