K-9 Riggs Staying Busy

K-9 Riggs Staying Busy Law.

Sellersburg-Trooper Zach Smith and his K-9 partner Riggs recently made two stops resulting in drug arrests. The first happened on October 10th at approximately 3:30 pm when Trooper Smith stopped a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup on U.S. Hwy. #150 East Bound near Paoli Pike in Floyd County. The traffic stop was for a traffic violation and during the course of the traffic stop reasonable suspicion was developed that criminal activity was afoot. Trooper Smith deployed K-9 Riggs and he alerted that there were possible narcotics in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded Marijuana and Scheduled IV Controlled Substances.

The driver of the vehicle, Leslie K. Holmes, 44, from Louisville, KY, was placed under arrest for Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Schedule Four Controlled Substance. She was incarcerated at the Floyd County Jail awaiting her first court appearance.

The second arrest came on yesterday’s date around 3:30 pm. Trooper Smith stopped a 2002 Dodge Stratus on Interstate #64 West Bound near the Eighty Two Mile Marker in Crawford County for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop K-9 Riggs was deployed and provided a positive alert for possible narcotics. A search of the 2002 Dodge Stratus yielded Crystal Methamphetamine, Heroin, Syringes, and other Drug Paraphernalia. The driver of the vehicle, John J. Bickerest, 30, from Park Street in Jasper, IN, was placed under arrest for Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule One Controlled Substance, Possession of Paraphernalia and Possession of a Hypodermic Needle. He was incarcerated at the Crawford County Jail awaiting his first court appearance.
