On October 11, 2015 at about 10:47 PM, a Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was on patrol in the area of Calle Del Monte and Highway 12 in Sonoma. He was flagged down by a passing motorist. The person reported seeing a man sitting inside a car with a handgun on his lap. The person provided a description of the man, the car and possible license plate. The Deputy had our dispatch center broadcast the information.
Soon another Deputy spotted the car and the man in the 18000 block of Highway 12, in the Boyes Hot Springs area. They carefully contacted the man, identified as Michael Cazares Avila. He was the only person in the car. They found a loaded pistol under the driver’s seat.
Avila is a 24 year old man from Santa Rosa. He was booked into the Sonoma County jail for carrying a loaded, concealed firearm inside a vehicle. He posted bail and will have an arraignment in court date scheduled.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is grateful to the members of the public who report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods. Working together we can address concerns and keep our streets safe.
