Sheriff's Office and District Attorney's Office Begin Extradition Process for Randy and Evi Quaid
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office and the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office were notified yesterday, October 9, by Vermont State Police of the arrest of Randy and Evi Quaid in the State of Vermont. Mr. and Mrs. Quaid have been fugitives from justice in Santa Barbara County since the year 2010. They are being held in Vermont on $500,000 bail each on California warrant charges of felony vandalism, misdemeanor trespass and felony failure to appear while out on bail. Mrs. Quaid is also facing a charge of misdemeanor resisting arrest.
In the first step of the extradition process, Mr. and Mrs. Quaid will be arraigned in Vermont State Court on Monday, October 12. The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office has been in touch with law enforcement officials in the State of Vermont and has started the extradition process. If Mr. and Mrs. Quaid are ordered to remain in custody pending release back to California, the Sheriff’s Felony Fugitives Unit will coordinate their return back to California to face their outstanding charges.
It has been five years since Randy and Evi Quaid are alleged to have committed crimes in Santa Barbara County. It is the intent of the Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office that Mr. and Mrs. Quaid, either voluntarily or if necessary by a warrant from the Governor of California, go through the judicial process.
