Niles Canyon (State Route 84) will close for several hours October 10 & 11 for maintenance and Stroll & Roll Event.

This weekend Niles Canyon (State Route 84) will be closed for several hours on both Saturday and Sunday.  The canyon will close Saturday, October 10, from 5 a.m. - 3 p.m. for annual maintenance and on Sunday, October 11, from 6 a.m. - 2 p.m. for the Niles Canyon Stroll and Roll Event.  Details are as follows:

Saturday, October 10, 2015 - Niles Canyon Maintenance

Caltrans District 4 (Oakland) will close State Route 84 in Niles Canyon, Alameda County between Old Canyon Road in Fremont and Main Street in Sunol to vehicular traffic including bicycle riders on Saturday, October 10, 2015, from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for “Extreme Maintenance” in the corridor, including litter removal, drain cleaning, weed and overgrown brush removal, tree trimming, mowing, rock slide clearing and rock scaling, shoulder grading, pothole repairs, sweeping, striping, electrical re-lamping and delineation. The road will be closed for the safety of workers and the traveling public.

Local residents can enter the area at manned check points at both ends of the closure at Old Canyon Road and at the Sunol Road off-ramp. Local residents will escorted in by Caltrans staff while traveling in the work zone. CHP will stage a check point at Polomares Road for residents entering Niles Canyon. Work is weather dependent. Sunday, October 11, 2015Niles Canyon Stroll & Roll Event 

From 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Niles Canyon will be closed for a Roll and Stroll Event.  The free event is designed to give pedestrians and bicyclists the opportunity to speak with technical experts about the options and challenges for the much anticipated Niles Canyon Trail.  You will be able to provide your comments and feedback as you bike, walk or run along Niles Canyon Road without any vehicle traffic. The Canyon will be closed at Old Canyon Road in Fremont, Polomares Road (from the canyon side) and at Main Street in Sunol.
