Trooper Injured in Two Vehicle Crash Downtown Indianapolis
Indianapolis, IN- A two vehicle crash early this afternoon, at approximately 2:30 p.m., in downtown Indianapolis has injured an Indiana State trooper.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Trooper Christopher McCawley, 46, assigned to the Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center, was operating a 2013 unmarked Dodge police vehicle EB on McCarty Street in the intersection of Meridian/Russell Street. Trooper McCawley was not on an emergency detail and was not operating emergency lights or siren. Witness information and evidence obtained at the scene indicates that a Ford pickup truck being driven by Jason Cline, 35, of Lebanon, IN was NB on Meridian Street, disregarded the red automatic signal, and struck Trooper McCawley’s vehicle in the passenger side door.
Trooper McCawley was transported to Methodist Hospital with complaint of pain to his head, shoulder and leg. Cline declined medical treatment and was not transported.
Cline was issued a traffic citation for disregarding an automatic signal.
