Flora Man Injured in Miami County Crash

Miami – Yesterday at approximately 12:49 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at Miami County Road 500 South, which injured an Indiana man.

The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Chuck Meyer revealed that Tony Parsons, 47, Lebanon, IN, was driving a 2015 Mack semi-tractor, pulling an empty tanker trailer, westbound on Miami County Road 500 South, approaching U.S. 31. Parsons allegedly failed to yield to cross traffic on U.S. 31. The semi-tractor proceeded across U.S. 31 and was struck by a southbound 2008 Subaru Odyssey, driven by Scot Collins, 54. Flora, IN.

Firefighters from the Peru and Grissom Fire Departments had to extricate Collins from his heavily damaged vehicle. Collins was then transported by ambulance to Lutheran Hospital in Ft Wayne. He sustained non- life threatening internal injuries in the crash. Parsons was not injured. Both drivers were wearing a seat belt which Trooper Meyer believes prevented more serious injuries in the crash.

Parsons was issued a citation for failure to yield to cross traffic. Neither alcohol nor drug use is believed to be a factor in this crash.

Trooper Meyer was assisted at the crash scene by ISP Sergeant Rick Brown and Master Trooper Joe Swisher, and Dukes’ Hospital EMS.
