A public safety alert has been issued by the Compton Sheriff’s Station after a stun bag shotgun was reported missing from the trunk of a patrol car. The gun was reported missing at the end of the deputy’s regular shift in the city of Compton.
At about 9:00 PM, Friday, October 2, 2015, a Compton Sheriff's Station deputy placed a stun bag shotgun, with yellow markings on it in a black canvas carrying case, into the trunk of his patrol vehicle at Compton Station in the city of Compton. The deputy conducted his regular duties within the city. At the end of his shift on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at 7:00 AM, the deputy noticed the stun bag shotgun was missing from the trunk of the patrol vehicle. All other equipment was still in the trunk.
Compton Station personnel conducted an extensive search; however, the stun bag shotgun and carrying case have not been located. The shotgun was loaded with four less than lethal bean bag ammunition shells. The weapon can operate as a regular shotgun if loaded with live shotgun shell ammunition. The missing shotgun has a chrome colored barrel with a yellow stock. The yellow coloring on the gun is very visible. The shotgun is stamped "Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department." The shotgun was in a black canvas carrying bag (photo of a similar shotgun and carrying case is included with this release).
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is asking for public awareness in the ongoing efforts to locate this missing shotgun. The cause of the loss or possible theft is under investigation.
