On September 20, 2015, at approximately 1011 hours, Bryan Houser contacted the Rutherford County Communications Center about a domestic situation at his residence on North Fork Road. He advised that someone was there trying to kill him and requested law enforcement.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and met Houser’s father. His father had sustained multiple lacerations from a knife and stated that this son was the suspect.

Deputies went to 321 North Fork Road to make contact with Bryan Houser. Deputy Tyler Greene spoke with him through the door and asked for him to come outside to speak with him. After several minutes, deputies heard a gunshot coming from inside the house. Houser still refused to come out and speak with officers from the Sheriffs’ office. Rutherford County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team was activated. Several attempts were made by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office to have Houser come out and speak with the officers. Houser refused and fired multiple shots at officers.

With the help of SWAT Teams from Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and Forest City Police Department, Houser was taken into custody at approximately 0725 hours on September 21, 2015.

Cleveland, Buncombe, and McDowell County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Teams were en route to assist, but, fortunately, were not needed.

Houser was taken to Rutherford Regional and transferred to Mission Health in Asheville.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Forest City Police Department, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, McDowell County Sheriff’s Office and Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance
