The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

September 28, 2015

1940 Hours: During a traffic stop on Cedar Blvd., Officer Mapes cited and released a 52 year old female of Newark for her misdemeanor warrant.

2004 Hours: Officer Homayoun handled a Citizen’s arrest/shoplifting case at the NewPark Mall Macy’s store. A 25 year old male from Fremont and a 22 year old female from Fremont were booked at Santa Rita Jail for 484(a)PC- petty theft.

September 29, 2015

0824 Hours: Officer Bloom saw a 46 year old male of Newark near the Ardenwood 76 car wash. He had two outstanding felony warrants and he was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to Fremont Jail.

1611 Hours: Officers responded to a vehicle collision at Willow Street/Thornton Avenue. As a result, Officer Kovach arrested a 40 year old female from San Leandro for DUI. Sgt. Hoppe investigated the collision portion.

September 30, 2015

0808 Hours: NPD received a call of a collision involving a Union Pacific Rail Road Train and a truck. The collision occurred on the Morton Salt Factory property and the driver of the truck was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. UPRR Police responded for the investigation.

1226 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 24 year old male of Newark for his outstanding arrest warrant. He was issued a notice to appear in court and released.

1539 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 29 year old transient male for his outstanding arrests warrants. He was transported and booked into Fremont Jail.

1824 Hours: Officer Mapes handled a Citizen’s arrest/shoplifting case at the NewPark Mall Macy’s Store. A 32 year old transient male was booked at Fremont PD Jail for 484(a)PC, a Felony warrant, and possession of Methamphetamine.

1957 Hours: Officer Mapes investigated a minor injury traffic collision involving three vehicles that occurred on Cherry St.

2325 Hours: Officer Homayoun responded to a residence on Thornton Ave. regarding a disturbance. A 22 year old male who was intoxicated and had been fighting with family members fled the scene after kicking the front door open and assaulting one of his sisters. While the police were interviewing family members, the suspect returned in his vehicle and was subsequently arrested for 23152(a)VC- DUI, 594(a)(2)PC- vandalism and 242PC- battery. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

0132 Hours: Officer Mapes was flagged down by a passerby regarding a vehicle that the occupants of may have been setting off large fireworks. After stopping the vehicle S/B 880 near Mowry Ave., no fireworks were recovered but all three occupants of the vehicle were ultimately arrested. A 27 year old male of Castro Valley was arrested for 23152(a)VC- DUI. A 26 year old male of Fremont) and a 23 year old male of San Jose were both arrested for 647(f)PC- public intoxication. All three were booked at Fremont PD Jail.


October 1, 2015

1315 Hours: Officer Katz contacted and arrested a 42 year old male of Newark for driving with a suspended license (CVC 14601.1) and for possessing dangerous drugs.

2040 Hours: Officers responded to a residence in the 36000 block of Burning Tree Drive for a reported family disturbance. As a result, Officer Kovach arrested a 29 year old female of Newark for 148 PC- interfering with a police officer/investigation. She was booked at Santa Rita Jail.

October 2, 2015

0935 Hours: Officer Katz contacted and arrested a 33 year old transient male for possessing dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1204 Hours: Officer Katz was dispatched to the EZ8 Motel for a disturbance. Motel staff reported a subject was not a registered guest and refusing to leave. Officer Katz contacted a 20 year old male from Fremont and arrested him for an outstanding warrant. He was issued a notice to appear in court and was released.

1553 Hours: Officer Katz contacted and arrested a 40 year old male from San Francisco for possessing concentrated cannabis.

2257 Hours: NPD Dispatch received numerous calls reporting gunshots heard on St Mary St. Officers located a victim on St. Mary St. at Milani Ave. The victim was involved in a verbal and physical altercation with a 59 year old male from Newark, in front of a residence in the 37000 block of St. Mary St, which led to the suspect shooting at the victim. Containment was established around the residence and extra resources were requested from Union City PD. The suspect exited into the backyard prior to UCPD arrival and complied with directions to respond out to the front of the residence. A records check indicated that the suspect is a previously deported aggravated felon. The suspect admitted that he fired a single round into the air after the altercation with the victim. The suspect claimed to not know where he discarded the weapon, which he described as a .38 revolver. Officer Arroyo authored a search warrant for the residence and numerous firearms were located inside the residence. The suspect was booked at Fremont PD Jail for negligent discharging of a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

October 3, 2015

1743 hours: Officer Johnson conducted a traffic stop on a 1990 Gold Ford Aerostar on Mowry Ave at Alpenrose Ct. Officer Johnson arrested the driver 33 year old driver from San Lorenzo for reckless driving, driving with a suspended drivers license and possession of burglary tools. The driver was released with a citation.

October 4, 2015

0609 Hours: While driving into work Officer Lopez observed a vehicle stopped in the roadway on Thornton Ave and Newark Blvd. The driver was passed out at the wheel and notified NPD Dispatch. Officer Smith responded and arrested a 26 year old male from Fremont for DUI (23152 (a) CVC). The driver was transported and booked at Fremont PD Jail.

1544 hours-Officers Jackman responded to Macy’s on a report of a shoplifter in custody. Officer Jackman accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 22 year old male of Newark and released him on a citation for a violation of 484 PC- petty theft.
