Clayton County Fire Chief and EMA Director, Landry Merkison advises:
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of north and central GA including Clayton County.
Today
Isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon into evening. However, severe weather is not anticipated. The storms may bring locally heavy rainfall and occasional lightning strikes.
Saturday-Sunday
An upper level low pressure system with moisture will produce significant rainfall mainly Saturday into Sunday. Sustained heavy rainfall may produce from 1 - 2 inches of rain over that time in Clayton County.
Hazards
Flash flooding may occur on the roads and in low lying areas but should not be widespread.
A prolonged period of rainfall may cause streams, lakes, and the Flint River to rise and spread out in low lying areas.
As represented in the graphic below, areas to our east may see a 3-day rainfall total of 3 - 10+ inches or more. Please exercise caution as you travel this weekend, especially if you are going to NE GA.
