On October 1, 2015 at approximately 6:25 pm Officers were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover at SE 3rd and Grand St. Upon their arrival they discovered a 2014 Chevy Sonic driven by Johnny Lester Chapman Jr., WM, 51 of Amarillo had been east bound on SE 3rd. The driver lost control of the car, left the roadway, went through the ditch, struck a BNSF rail road track, then rolled several times. Chapman was taken to a local area hospital where he later died from injuries received in the crash. Speed is a factor in this collision. Justice of the Peace Herman has ordered an autopsy. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation squad of the Amarillo police Dept.
